What To Do With Our Staircase?

I've been wanting to do something to spruce up our staircase for several months now.

This is what the staircase looks like right now.
A bit of trim would definitely finish off the sides... But what else can I do? Well, I've been playing with my photoshop program and take a look at what I came up with.

I could stencil some numbers. Or may be....
Cute story...When hubby and I were first looking to buy a house we looked at what seemed to be millions of houses. None really stood out, none until we walked into this house. We immediately fell in love with it. We were so excited, but scared too. Was this the one? The more we saw the more we fell in love...but was this The One? Our realtor walked in front of us as he was showing us the rest of house when suddenly he said..."Expect a Miracle." What!? What is he saying? What does he mean? Well, we thought he meant that it would take a miracle for us to get this house...this house that in a matter of minutes had become the Home of our dreams....But then we saw this....

( Picture of our little cottage when we first got it. It's the view from the top of the stairs.)
So we decided that this was a definite sign and there was no more doubt. This would definitely be Our Home. Anyway, this is why this saying is special to us and I think it would be perfect for the stairs. What do you think?
This is the same as above, but I added a couple of little birdies...What do you think? Too much?
(This is what the view from the top of the stairs looks like right now.)
Do you have any other ideas you could share with me? I would love to hear them.
Thank you so much for stopping by today.
Wishing you a wonderful new week.
Blessings.
Hugs and Kisses,

Hello Ana, I love your staircase exactly as it is, but it does look pretty with "Today Expect a Miracle", with the little birdies of course! xoxo Julie Marie

Love the birdies, but I really like the numbers or how about using birds for the number amounts instead. Sea Witch

Ana amor...they all look so pretty! I think with the lil birds :) I love your stairs...they are just like mine and that is how I want to make them look, I want to sand and restain the treads (is that what the part you step on is called?) a dark wood and the back part cream or white...but I have some beautiful embelished wall paper that looks like ceiling tin..paint it cream and then add a darker glaze to antique it.. I thought about using that instead of the paint...what do you think? I love all the color in your house and those picture frames at the base of your stairs spelling "family" I am going to be in your neck of the woods this Friday :) Gotta get my mama from the airport..Thank you so much for your note on my blog, it helped me feel so much better...she got there fine :) We all just miss her...I can't wait to see how your stairs look when they are all done! Do you live in an older home too? Besos, Rose

I really like the numbers, Ana, but the "Expect a Miracle Today" with the birds is exceptionally nice, I think. Especially seeing as how it has so much meaning for your family. Hugs, Cindy S.

I love both of your ideas but the sentimental part of me is partial to "Today Expect a Miracle." I love a cute story like that one and I love when you know something is "meant to be."

Well there are a lot of possibilities thats for sure!! I love the numbers and I love the saying too. You could also do a fleur de lis stencil or something like that. I don't know, I'm not very creative!! Whatever you do, it will be perfect. What about your favorite scripture maybe.

Hi Ana,
I like all your ideas for your stairs and the story behind it but I think I would go with the second one.
Thank you for your comments on my blog. To answer your question about picture enlarging-my son did that for me so I have sent him an email asking him to explain it and I will get back to you.
Take care,
Carolyn

Ana
I truly love the words since our homes tell the story of us. They hold precious moments as a family and that should be shared as perfect as the design you came up with.

Love you
Kate

What a cute story. I love the saying you select especially with the little birds. I have also saw where people paint "There's No Place Like Home" on the staircase if it is in the entry. Let us know what you do! XOXO

Go for it! I love the story and the saying. The birds are wonderful too. I'm probably not the right person to ask if it's too much though! LOL! You know I like a lot of everything. I would probably do the numbers on the stairs and the saying with the birds on the wall.
Hugs,
Dawn

Hi Ana. Lovely little staircase. I think the saying is so sweet and holds special meaning. The birds are not too much. I love to see stenciled stairs. If you look around Spain, Morocco, even in the Middle East, they use stencils to decorate using the most wonderful colors. Gives everything such character. I've been wanting to stencil around our front door fo a while now. I should think about doing that soon. Good luck with your project. Blessings :) Tammy

I love your ideas for the stair risers. We have a second staircase off our kitchen and I have wanted to add numbers or letters to the risers since we moved here, five years ago. Alas, we are now getting ready to move again and this plan will have to wait for another home.

Good Morning Ana,

You have so many cute ideas!! I know you will pick the right one. I have found that the longer I live in our little farmhouse that the HOUSE tells me what it wants and it is sometimes NOT what I wanted!!

I would take that famous "Oral Roberts" quote and stencil it ABOVE the area where it was originally located up under that window, in the same fonts as you show here. Then, you could read it every time you walked down the stairs. What a great way to start the day with such an inspirational message!!

As far as the area walking up the stairs, I would leave them just as you have them and focus more on adding some design elements with the trim--perhaps only a couple of birds at the very top step. From the pics that I have seen of your house, I think anything more would be too much. THAT IS JUST MY opinion.

Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

Hi Ana....I think you already have your answer! I love the miracle thought and it is so positive and a definite sign for you and your husband when you first went into your house to be. The little birds are darling too! Go for it!~Hugs, Patti

Hi, Ana,
Well I am not going to be any help at all. I like it both ways. To me the numbers give it a "French" feel. I also love "Today Expect a Miracle" with the sweet birds. I don't think you could go wrong either way! Love to you! Vicki

Ana,
I think any one of the ideas you have would look great on the stairs. I am leaning towards the last one with the birds on it... I hope you show us what you do.
Blessings!

Hi Ana,
How creative you are! After studing the pictures of the different looks, my vote is for the "Today expect a miracle" with the birds. At first I really liked the numbers, (which is still a cute idea) but the saying with the birds, adds depth to the stairs and the focal point becomes the saying not the stairs. Let us know what you decide, I can't wait to see the finial result. Smiles to you, Janice
