No Peonies For Me

I love, love, love peonies and since I was feeling a little more confident about my gardening skills I thought I would give growing them a try. But...

As I researched where to find them I found out they cannot be grown in my zone. What!?

Something about not enough "chilling hours"...But us Californians do plenty of chillin' out...Hee, hee, hee.

Now I know why I have never seen a peony around here...Can you believe I have never ever seen a peony in person?

Well at least I can continue to enjoy their beauty through pictures...All pictures are from Country Living Magazine. Hope you enjoy.

Wishing everyone a fantablulous day.

Hugs and Kisses,

Hi Ana, I also love peonies and do grow them. I have them line up on one side of our home. One draw back are ants. Ants just love them, so I have to be careful when I bring some in and not bring the ants too. HA! HA!

I too love peonies but they don't grow here either and in the floral shops they are extremely expensive when they have a few in, so, I love looking at photos of them! Love your new blog style!

Oh my goodness, I never realized you couldn't grow them in CA! Interesting. We just planted some over the weekend. They smell as beautiful as they look.

Wow, I had no idea they couldn't be grown there. You learn something new everyday! My last blog post was about my peonies that are in full bloom. I hope someday you get to see {and smell} them in person. They are my all-time favorite flower. It's sad they only bloom for one week out of the year. Maybe that's what makes them extra special.

So glad you stopped by my blog! I'm excited to be your newest follower :)

That stinks Ana! I love them also but believe it or not ..I have never attempted to grow them. My neighbor has a lot of them and they are always covered with ants ~ she says that they need the ants to bloom.
The photos are so pretty.

can you buy them at a flower shop or a trader joe's? they don't last very long but they are beautiful. almost like big tissue-paper bunches. keep searching!

My peonies are going to need a couple more weeks before they bloom. What a surprise that you cannot grow them because of your zone! That is usually what happens to me up here in Zone 3.

Ana, you might be delightfully surprised if you tried growing them. You'll never know until you do. I tried growing things in CA that needed 'chillin', some grew, some did not but it was sure fun trying.

I grow them here. They are an awesome flower.

Hope next year to hear about your peony bouquets ...

Have a beautiful eve ~

I also have peony envy!...hee!hee!...that doesn't sound quite right! :) My mom, who is a master gardener, says we can't grow them in California. We can grow some beautiful roses, however!
