We are quickly approaching the end of this year. I can't believe how fast it came and went. But I am looking forward to what the New Year has in store for us. It is always so very exciting to begin a new year. Feels like a fresh new start.
My New Year's resolutions are to pray more, laugh more and love more.
How about you, do you have any New Year's resolutions?
If you've been
following me for a while you might know that every year I make an ornament for our Christmas tree. One that holds some of the most important and special events of that year. It's sort of a mini time capsule.
On one side it's all about our daughter and her accomplishments as a college student. She is working so hard to make it into grad school. Her favorite quote is "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the Stars."
On this side is the cover of the beautiful magazine Artful Blogging. This issue is special in particular because my petite blog was featured in it.
Next is some movie tickets stubs from the premiere of Star Wars, The Force Awakens. This is for my Hubby who is the biggest Star Wars fan I know. Believe me this was a big deal and special moment for him :-)
And although this wasn't a special moment or happy memory I wanted to memorialize our little fur baby Cookie by adding her id tags to this year's ornament.
So there you have it...My Most Treasured Ornament 2015.
I've been a busy little bee decorating, sewing and crafting. One of the craft projects I worked on is this pair of angel wings.
Would you believe it if I told you that I made them out of recycled cereal boxes?
I had been wanting to make a pair like this for the longest time for one of my Santo Dolls.
I know, I know, this isn't a Santos Doll but since I dressed up my petite dress form for Christmas I figured I could use the wings as Christmas décor too so I tried them on her and they are a perfect fit! I am so happy how the turned out.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful December.
I know this time of the year we all tend to be extra busy so please know that I appreciate you taking the time to stop by for a visit and for leaving me such sweet comments.
I am so excited to show you this year's Christmas mantel and a project for the fireplace that Hubby built for me.
I know it may not look like much but that wood piece hanging from the fireplace is kinda special to me. One because Hubby made it and two because he made it out of old wood trim that was taken out of my parents kitchen when they remodel. The very same kitchen I grew up in. So being the sentimentalist that I am I just couldn't let them toss them out. At that moment I didn't know what I would do with them but I knew it would eventually come to me. I love, love, love how it turned out.
It displays the burlap wreath I made a few days ago. The pretty glittered reindeer is a Dollar Tree find. Love Glitter!
Decided to keep the mantel simple because I want the wood piece to have center stage. A pretty pair of white reindeer form Target and bottle brush trees.
A couple of vases filled with faux snow and ornaments.
And a burlap runner with twinkle lights and a red berry garland.
Here is sort of a before picture of the fireplace piece:-) Love all the chippy, scuffed up charm the pieces had so I kept them as they were. However there were a few chips that showed a bit of blue paint, the color the kitchen was when my parents first bought the house. So I just touched them up with some paint and antiquing glaze so the whole piece would be all the same color.
This is the beginning of Thanksgiving week and we should keep in mind that Thanksgiving is so much more than great food and family gatherings...It's all about giving thanks for all our blessings. Of course this is something we should be doing on a daily basis because I truly believe that a thankful heart is a happy heart.
There is always so much to be thankful for on a daily basis. Today I wanted to share a sweet gesture from one of my sweetest blogging friends. I feel very blessed to call her my friend. I am truly thankful for her friendship and all the kindness and sweetness she has always shown me. Her name is Claudia and she is from Germany. Her blog is NuNu's Garn-und Stofflaborwhich translates to NuNu's Yarn and Fabric Laboratory. In it, she shares her beautiful handcrafted creations and some of the most beautiful scenery and garden pictures I've seen.
So what was the sweet gesture?
A beautiful pair of hand-knitted wool socks she made especially for me.
I love the color combination she used, especially the pink...My favorite color.
She also makes these beautiful embroidered Christmas cards. I was secretly coveting them and to my delight, she sent me one too...Yay!!
I love my socks and I love my sweet friend Claudia for always showing me nothing but sweetness and kindness. Thank you my dear friend Claudia for being so thoughtful.
Just wanted to share with you some pictures of my Thanksiving/Fall inspired dining room table vignette.
Completed with things I already had.
You might recognize this apothecary jar from other vignettes I've done. I just love apothecaries.
A Thanksgiving/Fall vignette wouldn't be complete without pumpkins, right?
And one of my vignettes would not be complete without some birdies :-) Oh, and did you notice the beautiful tarnished vintage tray? Can you believe it was a R.A.T? (Roadside Acquisition Treasure) Who throws out beautiful pieces like this? And this was not the only one...There were three more! Big score for me. One man's trash...right? Hee, hee, hee.
Don't you just love when an idea turns out better than you imagined?
I had two of these lampshade frames from a while back that I bought at a thrift store for only 65 cents and these strands of crystals, which were a dumpster save by my awesome Dad-in-law...And I thought...Hmmm, what would happen if I combine the both of them...And this is the result.
I am so happy how it turned out. Now to finish the other one. Oh, and I added a second smaller shade underneath it to soften the light a bit. So what do you think?
We hope you've enjoyed our little countdown...Personally I'm kinda glad it's over. Mr. Bones has Hubby, me and our daughter on edge with all his Halloween pranks. I asked him not to prank us anymore. No more spells, tricks or scares. And he promised he wouldn't pranks us anymore....
But he didn't promise he wouldn't go over to your house and prank you...
