Barbie....Paper or Plastic?

The other day while I was visiting my dear friend Julie Marie at Idyllhours, I read a post she wrote about some hidden treasures she had found in her own home. She had kept these treasures safely stored away in her basement until it was time for her to rediscovered them. Amongst all these wonderful treasures were her childhood Barbie dolls. (Click on her blog's name to take you to her Barbie post) I ♥ Barbie dolls...I mean, what little girl doesn't? Right? Sadly, as I told Julie Marie, I never owned one as a little girl. I guess back then Barbie was just a bit too expensive.

Today as I found myself thinking back on her post, I remembered something.....

Wait a minute!....

I did owned a Barbie... And I still have her too.

Well.... she's made out of paper, but she's a Barbie nonetheless.

I still have all her 1973 stylish wardrobe.

And all her cool accessories.

Here she is in one of my favorite outfits.

Thank you Julie Marie for helping me remember my own hidden childhood treasure.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

And thank you all for stopping by today.

What To Do With Our Staircase?

I've been wanting to do something to spruce up our staircase for several months now.

This is what the staircase looks like right now.
A bit of trim would definitely finish off the sides... But what else can I do? Well, I've been playing with my photoshop program and take a look at what I came up with.

I could stencil some numbers. Or may be....
Cute story...When hubby and I were first looking to buy a house we looked at what seemed to be millions of houses. None really stood out, none until we walked into this house. We immediately fell in love with it. We were so excited, but scared too. Was this the one? The more we saw the more we fell in love...but was this The One? Our realtor walked in front of us as he was showing us the rest of house when suddenly he said..."Expect a Miracle." What!? What is he saying? What does he mean? Well, we thought he meant that it would take a miracle for us to get this house...this house that in a matter of minutes had become the Home of our dreams....But then we saw this....

( Picture of our little cottage when we first got it. It's the view from the top of the stairs.)
So we decided that this was a definite sign and there was no more doubt. This would definitely be Our Home. Anyway, this is why this saying is special to us and I think it would be perfect for the stairs. What do you think?
This is the same as above, but I added a couple of little birdies...What do you think? Too much?
(This is what the view from the top of the stairs looks like right now.)
Do you have any other ideas you could share with me? I would love to hear them.
Thank you so much for stopping by today.
Wishing you a wonderful new week.

Petite Update On Our New Home Project

Remember a few weeks ago I posted about a little mishap we had in one of our downstairs rooms? It had rained a lot for a couple of days...which we desperately needed, but it flooded the room ruining our carpet and a wall. Well, I just wanted to give you a petite update. All I can say at the moment is that there was a lot of convincing to do on my part...But now, along with the new wall and new flooring there is a patio door involved :-) We had a contractor come over yesterday to give us an estimate for putting in the patio door (we plan on doing the rest ourselves) However, while inspecting the outside walls, the contractor discovered the reason why our room flooded. Long story short...It's an issue that requires attention otherwise the flooding will happen again. You all know what that means. More $$$ Hope the estimate doesn't come back too high. We'll just have to wait and see. I'll keep you posted.

Looking On The Bright Side.

At least we found out what the problem was before we put in the new floor and repaired the wall. Initially that's all we were going to do and we were going to do it all ourselves. Yikes! All of it would have been ruined as soon as it rained again. Good thing I insisted on putting in a patio door :-)

I'm Back!!!

Hi everyone....I'm back!

I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's celebration. My family and I had a beautiful, fun-filled and enjoyable holiday, which we were fortunate enough to spend in the company of family and friends. But the celebration is not over for us quite just yet....There is one more festivity that awaits us. This festivity traditionally marks the last day of the Christmas season for us.

On the 6th of January we celebrate El Dia de los Tres Reyes Magos or The Three Kings Day also known as The Feast of the Epiphany. It is a festivity traditionally celebrated in Mexico and in many other Latin countries. The kids love it because on the eve of this day they get to put one of their shoes out for the Magi to leave a present under...yay more presents! The following day the whole family gets together for a feast which includes the traditional Rosca de Reyes or Epiphany Bread, which is a sweet and very delicious bread. (See picture below)

This particular bread has a little something extra baked inside of it.

Yes, it's a little baby, weird huh? But oh so much fun. The rules are, if you are the person who finds this little surprise in your slice of bread you get to throw a party. Yeah!!! Traditionally the party is thrown on February 2nd, which is when Catholics celebrate El Dia de la Candelaria or Candlemas, and which is technically the last day of the Christmas season according to the Catholic calender. However, our family typically doesn't celebrate Candlemas but hey, we'll take any excuse to throw a party :-) Anyway, the Three Kings Day festivity is a wonderful tradition which has been celebrated by our family ever since I can remember and which I love, love, love because I get to enjoy the Christmas holiday for just a bit longer :-) Happy Three Kings Day everyone!

Thank you all for stopping by.

I missed you all terribly and I can't wait to come and visit with you.

Wishing you all a very blessed New Year full of love, peace, happiness, and tons of laughter.

Hugs and Kisses,
