No Peonies For Me

I love, love, love peonies and since I was feeling a little more confident about my gardening skills I thought I would give growing them a try. But...

As I researched where to find them I found out they cannot be grown in my zone. What!?

Something about not enough "chilling hours"...But us Californians do plenty of chillin' out...Hee, hee, hee.

Now I know why I have never seen a peony around here...Can you believe I have never ever seen a peony in person?

Well at least I can continue to enjoy their beauty through pictures...All pictures are from Country Living Magazine. Hope you enjoy.

Wishing everyone a fantablulous day.

Bee Happy...

Today is a bee-utiful day...

Birds are singing, sun is shinning and the bees are a-buzzin'...

Found this cute little beehive at the thrift store for about a buck.

But it didn't look like this when I first got it...

It looked like this. What a difference a little paint can make...Love it!

Wishing everyone a BEE-utiful day.

Drawer Transformation...Finis!

Hi Everyone!

Remember a few days back I showed you this salvaged drawer I was going to work on?

Well it's all done and here it is...

All of you who guessed I would transform it into a doggie bed for our sweet little chihuahua....You were right :-)

My hubby added some feet that he cut out of a left over piece of wood at the bottom for a bit of height... Not too high though... Cookie is getting a little older and can't jump as high as she once could. Then I gave it a couple coats of paint, hand-painted La Petite Chienne, (The Petite Dog) and Chic Boutique.

Then I antiqued it with some glaze and as a final step I sewed a pretty and comfy little cushion for it. Tres frenchy, don't you think?

I think little Miss Cookie liked it.

So what do you think?

We're Feelin' Blue

It's been a bit rainy and a little on the cold side here lately so I haven't been "inspired" to do much of anything. I guess this weather is just making me feel a little blue...

And I think I'm not the only one. Can you guess what this is?

Wait for it...

It's a blue roly poly...Found him in my garden the other day....Have you ever seen anything like it? Isn't it the most beautiful periwinkle blue you have ever seen? Boy, just when I thought I'd seen everything...

Wishing you all a beautiful day!

Sneak Peek

Hi Everyone...

How about a tiny sneak peek at the project I'm working on next?

I won't tell you exactly what I'm making out of this old salvaged drawer, I think I'll keep that a secret until it's done, but I can give you a little hint....

It has to do with this little cutie...Our sweet little Cookie.

Any guesses?

Wishing everyone a fantabulous weekend.

My Mom The Artist

I am very proud of my mom...Not only is she a wonderful mom, an expert seamstress, an awesome cook, a self-taught jewelry maker, but recently I discovered she's a very talented artist as well. I had often heard her say that she wished she could learn how to paint and I would always say, "Then why don't you?" So about a year and a half ago she took some classes and....

Beautiful hand-painted birdhouse apron made especially for moi.

Beautiful hand-painted throw pillow she made me as a gift for my birthday this year.

Mary is one very multi-talented lady and I am so proud and honored to call her my mom.

Thank you for stopping by today...Hope you come back soon, next time I'll be sharing about the newest project I'm working on. See you then.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

My First Rose

Does this look a little greener to you?

I have always enjoyed gardening, but an expert gardener I am not. I have never, ever in my entire life claimed to having a green thumb, quite the contrary. So when something in my petite jardin blooms it is a HUGE deal to me...

My sweet father-in-law gave me this rose plant about a year ago and it hadn't bloomed since...I have always considered roses a very difficult plant to keep and I never thought it would make it under my non-green thumb's care much less bloom....So this is a GIANORMOUS deal to me...

Isn't she absolutely beautiful?

And I would love to share it with all of you, my sweet blogging friends.

Wishing everyone a very beautiful new week.

All Dressed Up...

This vintage dress form is one of my most favorite pieces I own. It once belong to my grandmother who passed it down to my mother who then passed it down to lucky me :-)

I know I've shared about her before (click here) but today since she's sporting a new look I thought I would share again. She once use to reside in my daughter's bedroom, but now can be found in mine; hence the new look.

When I first saw this beautiful vintage crocheted collar at a thrift store I knew it would be perfect on her... And I think it looks tres chic paired up with my favorite necklace.

Love the tiny, little crocheted buttons, such a sweet detail. So, how does she look?

Thank you all for stopping by today.

Remember, leave a comment so that I know you were here.

Have a fantabulous day.

Petite Kitchen: Before And After

Yesterday I dropped by for a visit over at Jeanne's blog Bees Knees Bungalow, a truly inspiring blog. Jeanne has a fun, very creative and beautiful decorating style that I just love...you should see her bathroom. Anyway, she was sharing some Before and After pictures of her gorgeous kitchen (click here to see, but please hurry back, you won't want to miss mine). I love B & A pictures especially of kitchens...Well since I don't think I've ever share pictures of our petite kitchen remodel from a few years back I thought it would be fun to share some now.

**Just run your mouse over the next three pictures for the...Yay... after picture**

You see that very lovely shade of hunter green on the cabinets?... Yes, I picked it...I thought it would be better than the original dark brown color they were...But I guess regardless of what I think of it now...It doesn't change the fact that I loved it back then :-)

This side of the kitchen had nothing...no cabinets and no counter space. What do you think of the original floor? Nice huh? I couldn't wait to get rid of it...Since hubby and I did all the demo, every time I pulled a tile up it was pure joy...Hee, hee, hee.

As you can see it is a very petite kitchen, but I love, love, love how it looks now. See the lovely new wood floor in the after pictures? We had it match the rest of our cottage for a more uniform flow.
My beautiful O'Keefe and Merritt stove...If you like to read the story behind my stove just click here.

Love my apron, farmhouse sink.
Chandie Bling, Bling...A must in every room...Can you believe we only paid $60 for each unfinished wood corbel? If we would have bought them through the company we purchased the cabinets from, they would have cost us $200 each! And they were no where near and pretty as these.
So there you have it our petite kitchen...Before and After.
Hope you enjoyed your visit.

**Oh! But before you go...What did you think about the fun image "mouseover" trick? I first read about it over at Angeline's blog, Country Kingdom, who read about it over at Layla's blog, The Lettered Cottage. Click here to learn more.**

Have a fantabulous day everyone!
